Children's & Young Adult Awards

  • Abraham Lincoln Award
    The award chosen by youth readers in grades 9-12.
  • Caldecott Award
    The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
  • Coretta Scott King Award
    The Coretta Scott King Award is presented annually by the Coretta Scott King Task Force of the American Library Association's Social Responsibilities Round Table. Recipients are authors and illustrators of African descent whose distinguished books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream. "
  • Hans Christian Andersen Medals currently awarded every two years to one author and one illustrator in recognition of his or her entire body of work.
  • Jane Addams Book Award
    The Jane Addams Children's Book Award has been presented annually since 1953 by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and the Jane Addams Peace Association to the children's book of the preceding year that most effectively promotes the cause of peace, social justice and world community.
  • The Joan Fassler Memorial Award is given annually for excellence in children's literature dealing with medical or health-related issues by the Association for the Care of Children's Health
  • Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award annual Minnesota reading award given in honor of the author of the Betsy-Tacy books.
  • Monarch Award
    The award chosen by youth readers in grades K-3.
  • Newbery Award
    The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.   • Rebecca Caudill
    The award chosen by youth readers in grades 4-8.

  • Griffin Poetry Prize - an annual international and Canadian literary award for poetry written or translated into English.

Awards of Excellence

  • Aztlan Prize sponsored by Rudolfo and Patricia Anaya and the University of New Mexico and is given each year for the best work of fiction in English by an emerging Chicano writer in a work that explores aspects of Chicano culture
  • Booker Prize sponsored by Booker McConnell Ltd and administered by the National Book League in the United Kingdom. It is awarded to the best full-length novel written in English by a citizen of the UK, the Commonwealth, Eire, Pakistan or South Africa.
