How do I obtain or replace a library card ?

Library cards are issued to Lansing residents free-of-charge with proper identification to prove residency. (A valid photo I.D. and two acceptable items with your current Lansing address. If the photo I.D. shows your current Lansing address, you only need to provide one additional acceptable item with your current Lansing address, such as a current utility bill.) Lansing residents under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian, with proper identification, sign for them.  Lost cards should be reported immediately and may be replaced for a $5.00 fee. You must present your card whenever borrowing material.

What is the loan period for library materials?

All circulating library material may be checked out for two weeks (14 days) at no charge with the following exceptions:

Feature film DVDs 3 days ($1.00 fee)
Feature film (VHS) videos, Non-fiction videos & DVDs 14 days ($1.00 fee)
Children's feature film DVDs 3 days ($1.00 fee)
Children's feature film (VHS) videos, non-fiction videos & DVDs 14 days ($1.00 fee)

Are there limits to how much I may check out?

Only 5 items of the following formats may be checked out at one time:

DVD’s / Videos / Magazines / Audio Books /

Compact Discs

There is a limit of 20 items for books.

Limits should be remembered when placing requests for multiple items.


What are the fines for overdue materials?

Books 10˘ per day
Magazines and pamphlets 10˘ per day
Video tapes & DVDs $1.00 per day
Compact discs 25˘ per day
Audio cassettes &
Talking books
25˘ per day

Overdue fines are not charged for days when the library is closed. A book return is located to the right of the Indiana Avenue entrance.

I want material someone else has checked out...What do I do?

Material which is checked out to another patron may be reserved for you, through the computer catalog workstations, at the Adult Services desk, or Reference desk. Patrons may also place a hold by visiting the catalog portion of our website.


May I access the Internet at the Library?

Filtered Internet access is available to Lansing Patrons and Reciprocal Borrowers who have registered for this service. Persons under the age of 18 must have a parent register for them. The Photo ID Library Card must be placed in the holder on the terminal.

Patrons are strongly encouraged to register for Internet access when obtaining their library card. Internet access is required to access our databases to search for articles, or use NoveList within the library.

Failure to abide by the Library's Internet Use policy will result in termination of user privileges.

Does the library have a typewriter for public use?

Yes! Typewriters for public use are available for a fee of 50˘ per hour.  You must supply your own paper.

Who is Lewis O. Flom?

The Lansing Public Library building is named for Lewis O. Flom, a long-time Library Board President.


Does the Library have TAX FORMS?

Usually beginning in mid-January or early February, 1040-series federal tax forms are available at the library.

Usually beginning in February the Library receives Illinois tax forms. 

The Library also has other resources, such as privately published tax guides.

Many Federal and State tax forms can be downloaded directly from the internet..  Click here to go to the Tax Info page.

W-2, 1099 and other informational forms used in filling out personal income tax forms must be obtained from the appropriate employer, bank, or financial consultant. For employers or institutions looking for blank copies of these forms, they can be ordered from the IRS (1-800-TAX-FORM), and purchased through office supply stores.


Lansing Library Debit Cards...Do I need one?

In order to manage all the printing tasks done at the library computers, Lansing Library has installed printing management software that is designed to be self-service for library users. This system uses a Debit Card, or your Photo ID Library Card.

All color computer printouts cost 15˘ per page.
All black & white computer printouts cost 10˘ per page.
