[Sign-Up Form] [Questions & Answers] You may now receive e-mail notices from the library about items requested or overdue. Follow the instructions below to begin receiving notices by e-mail or to change your e-mail address. By following the instructions below, I am authorizing Lansing Public Library to send notices to me via e-mail instead of regular mail or by phone, including notices about items I have requested and items that are overdue. I understand that if notices cannot be delivered to the e-mail address I have provided, the library will send notices by their usual method. Lansing Public Library will not sell or distribute your e-mail address. We will continue to phone all patrons who have InterLibrary Loan (ILL) items awaiting pickup. Steps:
Please review your contact information to be sure it is correct. At present, when you use our online catalog to request library materials our system may tell you that you will be notified by phone when the materials are available even if you're actually notified by e-mail. We will send you a confirmation e-mail when your request has been processed. If it does not arrive within 48 hours [except weekends/holidays] email webmaster@lansing.lib.il.us Q. Why is the library offering e-mail notification? A. E-mail notification of overdue items will reduce the library's postage expenses for those who have been receiving notices in the U.S. Mail. E-mail notification of items on hold awaiting pickup will allow Circulation Staff to concentrate on helping patrons and other tasks. Unless you register for e-mail notices, overdue notices are mailed via U.S. Mail and hold notification is by phone. Q. How does E-Mail notification work? A. When something you have requested is ready for you to pick up, the library will send you an e-mail notice. The notice(s) will list the titles being held, and that the items will be held for 3 days from the date on the e-mail. You will also receive e-mail if you have overdue items. When items are overdue by a month or more, your notices will be mailed via U.S. Mail. Q. Can I receive my notices both by e-mail and also by phone or U.S. Mail? A. No. You must choose one option. Q. My e-mail has a spam blocker. Will that interfere with my receiving notices from the library? A. When you register for e-mail notices, we will send you a confirmation e-mail when your request has been processed. If it does not arrive within 48 hours [except weekends/holidays], your e-mail service may have placed the message in your "junk/bulk" mail folder instead of your inbox. If that happens, try adjusting your spam or junk mail settings so that e-mail from librarynotices@lansing.lib.il.us is sent to your inbox. Q. What if my e-mail address changes? A. Once you have signed up to receive e-mail notices using the form on this page, you can change the e-mail address to which notices are sent by logging into your borrower account. Q. Can all the members of my family receive their notices at the same e-mail address? A. Yes, but privacy may be a concern. If family members share one e-mail address, then all persons with access to that mailbox will be able to view notices sent to that e-mail address. Q. How is this different from Library Elf? A. Signing-up for e-mail notification with the form on this page will save staff time, and postage costs. Library Elf is a third-party product. Lansing Library has no knowledge of which of our patrons have signed up for Library Elf's reminder services. Library Elf can send you reminders before your items are due. Lansing Library generated e-mail notices will arrive 14 days after item was due back. Q. Will my e-mail address be sold to mailing lists? A. No! We will not sell, share or transmit your e-mail address to mailing lists or any other companies. The e-mail address you provide Lansing Public Library will only by used by authorized Lansing Public Library staff to contact you. |
