Renewing Your Items

Most material may be renewed for an additional loan period. Reserved materials and Inter-Library Loan materials may not be renewed.

Renew by phoning the Circulation Desk (708) 474-2447

Telephone renewals may be made by calling the library. You must have the bar code numbers for the items or your library card number when you call. You can also renew many items yourself by logging into your borrower account, viewing your checked out items, clicking the checkbox for items you wish to renew, then click "renew." Renewed items will display the new due date.
Online renewals must be completed before 11:59 p.m. on date due to avoid fines.


How Do I Renew My Items Online?

Step #1 Login to your borrower account.

Your borrower number begins with 21137...

Your PIN is the last 4 digits of your phone number.

Click the link below to log into your account:

Step #2 Click "My Account"

Step #3 Click on "Checkouts" to see your list of items out.

Step #4 Check the box in front of each of the items you with to renew, or check the box labeled "select all" to select all items.

Step #5 Click the "renew" button.

Step #6 Renewed items will display a new due date, or please note if an item was not renewed.


Questions & Answers

  • I can't renew my items online! Help!
    Call the Circulation Desk. Some items may not be renewed. Staff can help you with the steps, or can renew eligible items over the phone. If you had more than 2 overdue items, you cannot renew online, but you may be able to renew the items over the phone. Call the Circulation Desk at (708) 474-2447.

  • I tried to renew online, and the system said my item could not be renewed. What do I do?
    Please return the item. You are responsible for overdue charges until the item is returned. Some items may not be eligible for renewal. You may return items in our book return, located to the right of the Indiana Avenue entrance.

  • May I renew items that are not yet due?
    Yes, unless other people are waiting, or if it is an InterLibrary Loan item.
    The new due date will be calculated from the date of renewal.

  • Oops! My item is due, and the library is closed!
    Renew online (complete your online transaction before midnight to avoid late charges!), or you may return items in our book return, located to the right of the Indiana Avenue entrance.

  • What is the loan period for library materials?
    All circulating library material may be checked out for two weeks (14 days) at no charge with the following exceptions:

    Feature film DVDs 3 days ($1.00 fee)
    Non-fiction DVDs 14 days ($1.00 fee)
    Children's feature film DVDs 3 days ($1.00 fee)
    Children's Non-fiction DVDs 14 days ($1.00 fee)

  • Limits on Library Material
    Only 5 items of the following formats may be checked out at one time:
    DVD’s / Magazines / Audio Books / Compact Discs
    There is a limit of 20 items for books.
    Limits should be remembered when placing requests for multiple items.

  • What are the fines for overdue materials?

    Books 10¢ per day
    Magazines and pamphlets 10¢ per day
    DVDs $1.00 per day
    Compact discs 25¢ per day
    Audiobooks 25¢ per day

    Overdue fines are not charged for days when the library is closed. A book return is located to the right of the Indiana Avenue entrance.

  • May I renew my items?
    Most material may be renewed for an additional loan period. Reserved materials and Inter-Library Loan materials may not be renewed.

  • How do I get Pre-Overdue or Due Date Reminder E-Mails?
    Add your e-mail address to your library account, and you will automatically receive e-mail reminders 3 days before items are due! You will also receive notification about books awaiting pickup, and overdue items via e-mail. Circulation staff can add your e-mail to your account, or you can send the library a message:
